I engaged in numerous discussions with robotics executives last year as I was developing ARC Advisory Group’s mobile warehouse robotics (AMR) research. CLINT: Mark, I came across many former Kiva Systems employees during my discussions with executives at warehouse robotics companies. Thankfully, he accepted my request.
The announcement came on May 15th at the company’s annual user conference, Momentum. Manufacturers refer to it as the “shop floor to top floor disconnect.” The same disconnect can happen in the warehouse and in transportation. The BOM transformation creates a feasible plan for procurement.
But there is a technology gap between gleaming new automated facilities and tens of thousands of existing warehouses and distribution centers that pre-date the warehouse building boom of the past 5-10 years. Modular Vs. Monolithic Warehouse Systems. Continuous Warehouse Optimization Opportunities. Distribution Disrupted.
Today, I speak at the North American Manufacturing Association, Manufacturing Leadership Conference, in Nashville on the use of data to improve supply chain resilience. Interestingly, in Q3 2023, 38% of manufacturers, distributors and retailers missed their target for revenue guidance for the quarter. My conclusion?
We conclude this two part series about manufacturing operations excellence by consultant Chuck Intrieri, by outlaying why manufacturers should focus on a critical component that will help sustain manufacturing operations excellence for years to come. What is Driving Sustainable Manufacturing Operations Excellence?
There are 3 common myths when it comes to adding new voice solutions to existing host or warehouse management systems (WMS): The Legacy Myth – You need a Tier 1 WMS to use voice-directed mobile applications so you should replace your custom-built systems or upgrade your legacy WMS package before looking at other solutions.
, spoke on best practices on supply chain risk management at ARC Advisory Group’s Digital Transformation in Industry conference. This global, Tier 1 manufacturer is headquartered in Stockholm and had revenues of over $8 billion last year. in turn, is a boutique procurement consultancy. The implementation was not trivial.
Anthony’s clients varied from construction, trucking, industrial, software, manufacturing, and retail industries. FreightWaves also hosts conferences under Transparency and MarketWaves branding and is a co-developer of the first futures contracts dedicated to trucking spot rates. pageviews a month and over 1.5B
The team was organized around the functional silos of source, make and deliver. Proudly, I had led my division to have the lowest manufacturing costs with the highest Return on Assets. It is one of the primary reasons why nine out of ten manufacturing companies are stuck at the intersection of operati ng margins and inventory turns.”
As vehicles become more connected, autonomous, electric, and customizable, automotive manufacturers are increasingly evolving into technology companies. Unlike traditional manufacturers, technology companies operate with greater agility and responsiveness. As we heard at the conference, the vehicle logistics industry is responding.
SAP’s user conference, Sapphire, ran from June 3rd through the 5th in Orlando. GROW is not as functionally rich as RISE and is mainly purchased by small and medium-sized businesses. SAP as part of S/4 HANA stack, also offers a feature-rich WMS known as Extended Warehouse Management (EWM). Lishnet said.
Chances are, if you purchased your WMS more than 10 years ago, your software may not be supported any longer. Provide labor orchestration to guide labor where needed in real time on the warehouse floor – whether to change tasks or to collaborate with AMRs. Solutions for increased expectations in security and service levels.
The world has changed from the oil days of machine assisted assembly lines and manufacturing processes as more robots have entered the workforce. Robotics is not just a way to help companies, but many manufacturers have recognized how robots can improve their supply chain processes, benefit the company, and drive their future success.
Rafael Labbé, Supply Chain Director at Suministros y Alimentos, a distributor to McDonalds Mesoamérica, shared his company’s experience and COVID-19 supply chain response with ToolsGroup’s Kathleen Geraghty at the recent ToolsGroup virtual user conference. This conversation has been edited and condensed for clarity.].
We were also joined by over 1,500 people from around the world who attended the conference virtually. The theme for the conference was “Ready. This came in the form of unexpected absenteeism at factories, warehouses, and on the road, as well as boats being stuck in ports which created container shortages. and Supply.AI.
However, two decades later, there is still no technology solution to enable demand visibility or help companies use channel data to translate demand into an inventory, replenishment, or manufacturing strategy. The problem is that warehouses are full. My question is, “Why?” Background. Investment in control towers.
Throughout the conference I met with several software and hardware providers to get a glimpse into what they were showcasing. The most interesting thing that Blue Yonder is doing from an OMS standpoint is driving promising and pre-sourcing to retailers. There are other components of supply chain data that Infor is prioritizing.
The global manufacturing sector has seen an upswing, a technological renaissance of sorts. Since the start of 2012, more people graduating from college and universities are entering the engineering/manufacturing fields. The manufacturing sector has been severely impacted by this trend because production jobs are highly technical.
Global supply chains are fundamentally rearranging and there’s a lot of reflection on how the urge to optimize efficiency (whether it was offshoring manufacturing to keep labor costs down, or making supply chains very lean to cut inventory costs) made supply chains more fragile. They, like us, were better prepared to react and respond. .
Source Wikipedia. Consumers became more loyal to retail brands, and retailers increased the number of products manufactured and marketed as house brands. Each year I go to the Consumer Goods and Technology (CGT) conference where speaker-after-speaker talks about retail/supplier collaboration. I am a disbeliever.
Having an agent detect how long it takes to ship from a supplier site to a manufacturing facility, and then doing a running calculation on how the average lead time is changing, is trivial math. But very few vendors are taking those alerts and automatically feeding them into their manufacturing planning solutions.

CLINT: Mark, I came across many former Kiva Systems employees during my discussions with executives at warehouse robotics companies. Thankfully, he accepted my request.
We have heard that there is a focus on near-shoring, reshoring, and local manufacturing. Building a fab (manufacturing site) takes two-to-four years and requires the availability of water and trained labor. In addition, the warehouses are full and containers are being used for overflow storage. Does this solve the problem?
Companies are the most satisfied with warehouse and transportation management and the least satisfied with demand planning. Previously, the focus was on a more siloed approach to improving manufacturing, procurement or logistics. The traditional technique is to forecast what manufacturing should make.
This was certainly another strange year, but the in-person conferences I usually look forward to were a mixed bag this year. I attended my first in-person conferences and attended a number of virtual ones as well. Senior Isaiah Saunders-Brevner and his manufacturing and machining classmates are going to space, sort of.
When my flight canceled, I was en route to the annual AMR conference in Phoenix. Notice how the water turns from blue to brown in Figure 3 with the lack of demand translation capabilities within the enterprise for manufacturing and logistics. Demand latency is two-eight weeks delayed from consumption purchase to translate to an order.
About ToolsGroup ToolsGroup’s innovative AI-powered solutions enable retailers, distributors and manufacturers to navigate through supply chain uncertainty. Recipients will be honored at this year’s Women in Supply Chain Forum, set to take place Nov. 12-13, 2024 in Atlanta. Go to www.WomenInSupplyChainForum.com to register and learn more.
Effective inventory management is crucial to reducing costs in any manufacturing business. This is particularly true in the food manufacturing industry, which characteristically has a high volume of products stored, and an urgent need to fill existing client orders to match ongoing consumer demand.

At the recent Gartner Supply Chain Executive Conference in Phoenix, analyst Marc Halpern clarified three key concepts about supply chain digital twins in his presentation “Busting the Myth of Digital Twins to Deliver Value.” The experience of our customer SKF, the world’s largest bearings manufacturer , bears this out.
That’s how JDA Software’s CEO, Baljit Dail, summarized the feedback he was getting from customers and partners at FOCUS 2015 , the company’s user conference held last month in Orlando, FL, which had more than 2,000 attendees from 30 countries. “It feels like a new JDA.”. Not all customers and prospects are created equal.
Pete Bennett, and his co-presenter, Mary Byrne, the vice president of supply and demand planning, spoke during a presentation at Kinaxis’ user conference Kinexions. Cardinal Health, a global manufacturer and distributor of medical, surgical and laboratory products, is focused on continuous improvement of service.
Next year’s conference will be on September 8th-11th in Franklin, TN, south of Nashville, TN. The design of the conference includes tours of several modern warehouses and centers of excellence. The number one question that I am asked today by manufacturers across all industries is “How can I improve customer service?”
If you are a manufacturing company or distributor, you most likely are using a warehouse or distribution center to make sure you are able to store inventory, replinish store fronts, and easily send goods to customers or receive goods for manufacture or distribution. This is a sign of poor warehouse operations management.
I love the stories but question the fit of the metaphor(s) for a supply chain conference. Note in Figure 1 the gaps from recent research between supply chain planning and manufacturing, logistics, and sales. The gap between logistics and procurement; and logistics and customer service increases process latency. The reason?
This year the annual United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP26) was held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, United Kingdom, from 31 October to 13 November 2021. “Even with all new Glasgow pledges for 2030, we will emit roughly twice as much in 2030 as required for 1.5 degrees Celsius,” states the Climate Action Tracker. Amazon, A.P.
2020 has been the year of virtual conferences and meetings for most of us. This collective source of rich knowledge, industry experience and market buzz, is a very unique opportunity and one which has made this event a great success. Warehouses today operate in conditions shaped by disruptive forces. EVENT HIGHLIGHTS.
My first job was in manufacturing in the 1980’s. I did not understand warehousing and transportation until reassignment to a logistics role in 1985. In the traditional supply chain world, the processes of sell, deliver, make, source, and plan are separate and distinct. I am a product of traditional, silo-based thinking.
If the word collaboration was listed on a card as a drinking game at supply chain conferences, we would be drunk at many. While touted as a digital procurement provider, it took the Company nine days to onboard me as a vendor, and two weeks to process a Purchase Order. Here I share perspective on cash-to-cash abuse.
A team from Blue Yonder attended the Manifest 2025 conference in Las Vegas last week, joining more than 7,200 attendees from the field of logistics. Make AI- and event-driven decisions Say the word warehouse automation and most people will envision order-picking robots and conveyor belts. Thats the power of modern AI.
