Cooper includes southern New Jersey’s only Level I trauma center (Cooper University Hospital), which is the busiest trauma center in the Philadelphia region. Everything from contrast dye, to tubing, to medical devices with embedded semiconductor chips would suddenly become difficult to source.

It was a sultry day in Philadelphia. Manufacturing is designed and planned in isolation. Comprehensive view of source, make and deliver. Most often the focus is on transportation or logistics, but does not take into consideration the trade-offs between make, source and deliver. Manufacturing. Procurement.

In a similar vein, a major 3PL that I spoke to last week at Eye for Transport is considering discontinuing the traditional storage of spare parts and initiating a new service to do 3D printing of parts on demand.
