Croatia has the highest number of freeports in the EU with Austria, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Sweden having none. In April 2019, prompted by reports of tax evasion and money laundering occurring in freeports, the European Parliament called for their closure across the EU.
